“Obrela” is a non profit non governmental organization. Founded on 2003 by Dr. Orestis Giotakos and contributed by scientists and scholars from many scientific spaces.
The basic aim of our organization is raising public awareness on sexual abuse and removing the secrecy traditionally associated with it. Our main activities include distributing information and knowledge regarding sexual abuse, scientific study of the causes leading to sexual abuse, and promotion and support of empirical research and treatment programs. We provide training to social workers and teachers working with abused or at risk children, as well as to disseminate information on the best practices, we have the experience of campaigning on prevention of sexual abuse through press and media talks, interviews, newspaper articles, media spots, and national congresses.
We have participated in many European and national projects relating to the fight against child abuse and we participate as a founding member of the National Network against child abuse which consists of local NGOs and the Ombudsman.
Our main target in bullets:

• Scientific investigation referred to in the prevention of sexual abuse.
• Informing people involved in preventing sexual abuse.
• Counselling, preventive and therapeutic intervention to individuals, either as victims or as perpetrators involved in the phenomenon of sexual abuse
• Organization of seminars, lectures, workshops and conferences on issues.
• Organization of research projects in this area.
• Editing and printing newsletters, magazines, books and other publications to disseminate the concept of prevention of sexual abuse.
• Develop close relationships with relevant scientific organizations in Greece, in order to exchange scientific ideas and experiences, but also co-organized programs or conferences.
• Develop close relationships with similar international scientific organizations abroad, participation in conferences, exchange of scientists and international conferences in Greece.

“Obrela” cooperates with ECPAT Int - www.ecpat.net - (to combat child sexual exploitation and child pornography), since 2009. The global campaign of ECPAT, takes place in over 80 states. The main purpose, of this campaign is to inform people and activate the global treaties and protocols to protect children from sexual exploitation and pornography.
"Obrela" cooperate closely in clinical research and education to the Adolescent Health Unit of the Pediatric Clinic II, University of Athens, which is the Helpline program Safer Internet Plus for Greece. It handles all matters to do with child abuse and pedophilia as also all complaints forwarded either through helpline 8001180015 or via email help@saferinternet.gr (the Greek Safer Internet Centre).

"Obrela" cooperate closely with e-NACSO (www.enacso.eu), as a National NGO representative, since 2010.
